RTC 66th Annual Meeting Recap

RTC held its 66th annual meeting, June 22nd 2017 at 5 p.m. This year the event took place at a new location, the Four Bears Casino Events Center. The event had a great turn out.

The meal was catered by the Four Bears Casino staff of New Town. Registration for the meeting was held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The National Anthem was performed by Nahish Demaray. The call to order was done by Jeanette Hoff followed by the Invocation by John Morley III. Jeanette Hoff then recognized Military Personnel and introduced the Board of Directors. Jennifer Sorenson read the meeting notice and proof of mailing. Jeanette Hoff then stated the approval of minutes followed by Mylo Wolding reading the nominating committee report.

This year the Annual Meeting held an uncontested election. Jeanette Hoff introduced the candidates and the election of the directors. The re-elected officers were Jennifer Sorenson, Marlyn Froseth, and Terry Wilber.

President Jeanette Hoff, CEO/General Manager Shane Hart and Chief Financial Officer David Aamot provided reports. RTC’s 2017 scholarship winners and FRS Youth Tour student were recognized. Jeanette discussed RTC’s “Watch TV Everywhere” video service feature. Hoff stated, “These new fiber connections allow rural members access to RTC video. WatchTVeverywhere is a new feature added to our video services. At no additional charge! You can call up any channel, to which you subscribe- to watch, anywhere you have access to Wi-Fi.” David Aamot went on to provide the 2016 Audit.

CEO/General Manager Shane Hart then provided his report, showing a service area map to better explain RTC’s new use of fiber. He showed a color-coded fiber map on the jumbo screen pointing out where RTC has fiber, where RTC is constructing fiber this year, and where RTC’s copper plant will be upgraded to fiber in the coming years. Hart stated, “RTC’s service area is just over 6,000 square miles so it takes a lot of time and money to accomplish such an ambitious task, and we are not done yet! I am proud to say about 77% of the cooperative’s ownership is served via fiber.” Along with the fiber build out, he discussed RTC’s new offering of standalone broadband. “As our society becomes more and more focused on high speed internet, interest in our traditional service diminishes each year.” This new broadband came to play by popular demand which would not require a landline telephone for its service. Hart urges members to stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.

Many awesome prizes were given away throughout the meeting, with grand prizes awarded at the end of the meeting. Prizes were bought locally, some of the prizes were: kitchenware, lawn accessories, numerous technology, kindle fire, echo and echo dots, as well as Cenex and Scheels gift cards. The grand prize awarded was a 55’ Samsung Smart TV.

Lastly, Jeanette Hoff stated: Unfinished Business, Election Results, and New Business followed by an adjournment of the meeting.
